Rancho Cucamonga Welcomes New Police Chief

With the recent retirement of Captain Mahoney, we are pleased to share the news and welcome back to the City of Rancho Cucamonga, Captain Ernie Perez. Captain Perez has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, effective April 24, 2021.

Ernie Perez, a 26-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, began his career in 1995. Captain Perez has worked various assignments, including West Valley Detention Center, Central Station, the Rancho Cucamonga Station and most recently the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.

During his 14 year tenure as a Deputy Sheriff, Captain Perez served as a patrol, training, correctional and narcotics unit deputy. Upon being promoted to Sergeant in 2009, Captain Perez was assigned to the West Valley Detention Center. In 2015, Captain Perez was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga Station, overseeing the station’s operations. Captain Perez was promoted to the rank of Captain by Sheriff John McMahon In 2019 and assumed command of the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.
