Registration for 2026 camps will be open from Monday, April 20th, to Friday, April 24th, or until all camp spots have been filled. Jr. Firefighter Camp has been created to allow youth in our community to be exposed to the fire service. Our goal is to reach as many young people as possible to begin inspiring the next generation of firefighters. With this goal in mind, we encourage anybody who has already participated in Jr. Firefighter Camp previously to refrain from registering again to allow other children in our community the opportunity to join in Jr. Firefighter Camp.
Rancho Cucamonga Fire District hosts a Junior Firefighter Camp for youth ages 11-15 each summer. This week-long camp teaches participants about the basics of firefighting as well as introduces them to fire prevention habits through hands-on activities, games and classroom lectures. Through activities such as relay races donning firefighting gear or coupling hoses, participants get a taste of the skills and knowledge necessary for firefighting. The Camp, limited to 28 participants, is held twice for one week each summer. Registration for the Camp will open at the end of April.

The Fire District's Fire Explorer Post was established in 1997. The Explorer Post allows youths between the ages of 16 and 21 to explore the various career opportunities available in the fire service. Explorers receive both hands-on and classroom training. Once an Explorer can demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and meet the qualifications, they can join firefighters on ride-alongs to observe actual emergency calls.
Upon completion of different levels of training Explorers may participate in some or all of the following: assist with Fire Prevention programs; assist with Public Relations or Public Education programs; ride as an observer on fire apparatus to emergency incidents; and perform a variety of community service related projects.
Training shall consist of lectures, manipulative and physical training, selfstudy, annual academies and multi-company drills provided by qualified officers, firefighters and qualified Explorers.
Fire Exploring is for youth ages 16 to 21. Applicants must be free of any physical debilities that would cause injury to himself or jeopardize others participating in the Explorer Program. No serious arrest or convictions. Must abide and maintain themselves to the District’s grooming standards. While attending high school, Explorer shall maintain a 2.75 GPA with no grade lower than “C”.
Fire Exploring is a disciplined program requiring a lot from those participating. Department professionalism standards must be met and maintained, grooming standard is required, and must attend weekly Tuesday meetings from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Explorers will be expected to volunteer with Rancho Cucamonga Fire District community events when available.
