RANCHO CUCAMONGA  sustainable community action plan

The finalized Sustainable Community Action Plan is now available. This project was truly community-based and this significant milestone couldn’t have been reached without the input from residents, local businesses, community organizations, City staff and elected officials, and regional agencies.    Please click the links below to access the various sections of the Plan.

The Sustainable Community Action Plan was presented in March to the Planning Commission and was approved on the April 5, 2017 City Council meeting.

Introduction + Overview

The City of Rancho Cucamonga developed a Sustainable Community Action Plan to identify and enhance opportunities for a cleaner and greener Rancho Cucamonga. The Sustainable Community Action Plan serves as a long-term vision for how Rancho Cucamonga can be more environmentally friendly and provide guidance for residents, City staff, and decision makers in the community on how to achieve future sustainability goals.

Background

In 2013, the City of Rancho Cucamonga applied for and received grant funding from Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) to develop a Sustainable Community Action Plan that includes goals and priorities identified through a robust community outreach process. The Sustainable Community Action Plan allows Rancho Cucamonga to:

  • Build Upon Recent Efforts - This project integrates and builds upon other recent planning efforts in Rancho Cucamonga, including the 2010 General Plan, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, Healthy RC Strategic Plan, and San Bernardino Associated Governments Regional Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program.

  • Evaluate Economic, Health, and Environmental Benefits - The triple bottom line analysis evaluates sustainability from the economic, health and environmental perspectives. This means the most efficient and cost effective techniques for achieving sustainability goals are identified, which will help prioritize policies and strategies for sustainability in the future.

  • Chart a Course for Future Action – The Sustainable Community Action Plan identifies and prioritizes next steps for Rancho Cucamonga to implement additional sustainability practices to achieve the community’s goals identified in the plan.  The draft Plan was posted for public comment and review.

Community Input

The development of the Sustainable Community Action Plan included multiple opportunities for the community to get involved and share their ideas. The City hosted community outreach booths at several meetings and events throughout Rancho Cucamonga to share information about the Sustainable Community Action Plan and received input on goals and priorities for the Plan. City staff conducted interviews with community partners, local organizations, and business groups to receive more focused feedback on the development of the Plan.  On June 2, 2016 at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, the City of Rancho Cucamonga hosted a Community Forum and Sustainability Expo with vendors, food, prizes, and opportunities to share thoughts and brainstorm ideas on how to make Rancho Cucamonga a cleaner and more environmentally friendly place to live, work, learn and visit.
