Over the years, the Jr. Firefighter Camp’s popularity has grown immensely. The Camp was created to expose youth in our community to the fire service. Our goal is to reach as many young people as possible to begin inspiring the next generation of firefighters.
To give everyone an equal opportunity to participate in a camp, we have changed the Jr. Firefighter Camp Registration process to a random selection system. All applicants who have not attended a camp in the past will be included in the first random selection. If that process results in filling the camp at a maximum of 40 participants plus 3 alternates, the camp will be considered full and closed.
If the first random selection does not fill a camp, those who have previously attended a camp will be in the second random selection that will fill the remaining spots in the camp. As in the past, there will be a June camp and a July camp.
We understand this new process may disappoint those who have already participated in the camp and were looking forward to being a part of another camp. We wish we could host every young person who wants to participate in Jr. Firefighter Camp, but the demand for camp is much greater than the resources available to host more campers. Although we understand the disappointment, this change intends to give every child in Rancho Cucamonga an equal opportunity to be exposed to the fire service.
Here is the registration timeline to ensure you do not miss any deadlines:
- Monday, April 24th – Friday, April 28th. Register at RCFire.Org for the June and July camps.
- On Wednesday, May 17th applicants who were randomly selected to participate in the camp will be notified that they have been selected to participate in the camp.
- Once notified, applicants will have until Monday, May 22nd to log in to their Activenet account and pay the $62.00 for the camp registration.
- If the applicant has not paid for camp registration by the end of the May 22nd business day, the applicant will be removed from the camp, and a spot will be offered to the next person in line.
