In our continued commitment to provide recreation for all, the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Community Services Department proudly offers recreation classes and events for our special needs community. Through partnerships and collaborations, the City offers classes for special needs individuals at discounted rates as well as monthly events that are fun for the whole family.
This August, the Community Services Department introduced the Rancho Cucamonga IncredABLES, a new Special Olympics Local Soccer Program. This free program supports Special Olympics Southern California’s mission to provide sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy. Athletes practice weekly and enjoy competing in regional competitions. The IncredABLES head coach, Bernie Lilavois, is President and Head Coach of the Ontario Fury, a professional indoor soccer team. Recruitment for athletes and volunteers has begun and the program is well on its way to becoming the best in the Inland Empire.
In February 2016, the City of Rancho Cucamonga established the Special Needs Partnership Coalition. This Coalition is made up of nonprofit organizations and other cities throughout Southern California. The Coalition provides networking opportunities to help expand existing programming for the special needs community.
