Brush Fire Quickly Brought Under Control

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014, Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters responded to a reported vegetation fire on Foothill Blvd near the 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire burning in the brush near the on-ramp to the southbound 15 Freeway. The fire, which grew to approximately 2 acres, was under control in about an hour.  Approximately 30 firefighters responded with five engines and two water tenders, including assistance from Ontario Fire Department.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Santa Ana winds caused the smoke to remain low, making visibility difficult for motorists in the area.  As a result, Foothill Blvd was closed along with freeway lanes for a brief period.  At the time of this release, all Foothill lanes are open, however the on- and off-ramps to the southbound 15 Freeway remain closed until further notice.
