At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 22nd, Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters responded to an injured hiker at Sapphire Falls in Cucamonga Canyon.
A 43-year-old male had reportedly jumped into the water at the lower waterfall and sustained a leg injury that prevented him from hiking out of the canyon. More than a dozen firefighters and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies coordinated search and rescue efforts to determine the hiker's location. Firefighters hiked into the canyon and located the patient, who was then hoisted out by a Sheriff's helicopter and taken to a nearby landing zone for medical treatment.
The patient was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment.
