Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018, Rancho Cucamonga Firefighters responded to a reported drowning in San Bernardino Rd. Fire Station 172’s response area.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a Sheriff’s Deputy from the Rancho Cucamonga station doing CPR on a five-year-old male. Shortly before that, a neighbor had pulled the boy out of the deep end of the swimming pool and attempted to render aid. Firefighter/Paramedics began treating the child that was unconscious and not breathing, before transporting him by ground ambulance to a local hospital. After exhaustive efforts to revive the boy, unfortunately he passed away at the hospital the following morning.
This is a devastating tragedy that the Fire District wants to prevent families from experiencing. Remembering the ABC’s of Water Safety will help keep your family safe around water this summer.
