The Mayor and four City Council members are elected by the voters of the City of Rancho Cucamonga. Each member serves a four-year term, which is staggered to ensure consistency of government. City Council meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of each month. Closed session will start at 5:00 p.m. in the Tapia Room at City Hall and regular sessions will start at 7:00 in the City Council Chambers. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
The City Council also serves as the Board of Directors for the Fire Protection District. Matters affecting this entity is routinely listed as part of the City Council agenda. Agendas for regular meetings are typically placed on the Internet at RC Live the Thursday prior to the City Council meeting as a public service, and are not intended to serve as a part of, or a replacement for, any part of the public noticing of projects appearing before the City Council.
