The Fire District hosts an annual Open House in October in celebration of National Fire Prevention Week. The history of National Fire Prevention Week has its roots in the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8 but continued into and did most damage on October 9, 1871. The Fire District's Open House is always held the Saturday following October 9th, and usually at the Jersey Fire Station (corner of Jersey and Milliken). This year, due to construction at the Jersey Fire Station, the event will be relocated to the Day Creek Fire Station (off Day Creek Blvd, north of Base Line Rd.).
We invite the public to visit the fire station and learn more about fire safety and injury prevention! The day's activities include learning fire safety tips, live demonstrations, firefighter dress-up pictures, games, giveaways, and a special guest appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog. Open House will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Day Creek Fire Station
(off Day Creek Blvd., north of Base Line Rd.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Although parking is limited at this Fire Station, it is conveniently located next to the Pacific Electric Trail so we encourage families to walk or bike to the event. We'll even host a Bike Valet so you can safely store your bike while you enjoy the Open House activities. Check out the event flyer
