The Fire District hosts an annual Open House in October in celebration of National Fire Prevention Week. The history of National Fire Prevention Week has its roots in the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8 but continued into and did most damage on October 9, 1871. The Fire District's Open House is always held the Saturday following October 9th, and usually at the Jersey Fire Station (corner of Jersey and Milliken).
We invite the public to visit the fire station and learn more about fire safety and injury prevention! The day's activities include learning fire safety tips, live demonstrations, firefighter dress-up pictures, games, giveaways, and a special guest appearance by Sparky the Fire Dog. See event flyer
for more details.
