Fire Explorer Program

The Fire District's Fire Explorer Post 540 was established in 1997.  The Explorer Post gives youths between the ages of 16 and 21 the opportunity to explore the various career opportunities available in the fire service.  Explorers receive both hands-on and classroom training.  Once an Explorer can demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and meet the qualifications, they can join firefighters on ride-alongs to observe actual emergency calls.  Click here to download a program brochure which details the recruitment process.  All youth interested in becoming a Rancho Cucamonga Fire Explorer must complete an online application.   When completing the online application, be sure to check "Fire Explorer" as the area of interest for volunteer so that your application is  processed appropriately.  Fire Explorer applications are accepted continuously throughout the year, establishing a waiting list for the next recruitment.  Only one recruitment is held each year, which typically occurs in the Fall.  For additional questions, please e-mail the Explorer Post Advisor.

To apply for Rancho Cucamonga Fire District Explorer Post 540, complete the online application.  Once the application is submitted, each Explorer candidate must submit a one-page essay titled "Why I Want to Be a Fire Explorer with Rancho Cucamonga Fire District."  The essay shall be typed and double-spaced.  If you are a high school student, you must also submit a recent grade report or progress report.  The essay and grade report must be turned in to Fire District Headquarters, located on the Lower Level of City Hall at 10500 Civic Center Drive, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016.
