Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The ADA was signed into law on July 26, 1990. It contains requirements for new construction, for alterations or renovations to buildings and facilities, and for improving access to existing facilities of private companies providing goods or services to the public.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga, in making an effort to assist all our citizens and visitors, has made the following Mission Statement: "The City of Rancho Cucamonga will ensure that its programs, services, and facilities are accessible to all members of and visitors to the community,"

With this Mission Statement in place, the ADA Consultant Team initiated Phase I of our ADA Compliance Program, encompassing programs, activities, and activities associated with City recreational facilities.

Activities included the following:

  • Conducted extensive interview with City staff to assess availability of City Programs, activities and facilities to the disabled community.
  • Examined and analyzed schedules and locations for City sponsored activities at recreational facilities.
  • Conducted a comprehensive recreational facilities survey, encompassing twenty-one parks along with the City's recreational trail system, to identify the incidence and extent of facilities noncompliance.
  • Reviewed and analyzed City protocol for communications with disabled individuals, and policies regarding requests from the disabled for access to City programs and activities at City operated recreational facilities.
  • Developed a formalized grievance procedure for individuals with complaints regarding disabled access to City facilities. (Grievance procedure)

This self-evaluation incorporates the results of these activities into a single document which will guide the City's ongoing efforts to comply with not only the letter, but the spirit, of the ADA and its implementing regulations.  You may reach us at:
