Historic Preservation

The City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Historic Preservation Program is administered by the Advanced Planning Department. The program is aimed to protect the City's heritage and its resources, while this growing community faces buildout within the next few years. By preserving key places that contribute to the history, our aim is to allow the city to develop, grow, and prosper without erasing its rich heritage that helps define the City of Rancho Cucamonga.

The Planning Department reviews designation and alteration applications of historic properties, works with residents and/or applicants with development projects, maintains the historic inventory, and oversees that the goals of the historic preservation ordinance are put into practice. The Planning Department is staff to the City's Historic Preservation Commission, who is responsible for determining which buildings and/or sites are historic, designating local historic landmarks, and approving alterations to local landmarks.

The Planning Department also administers the City’s Archives.
