While attending California Baptist University, Chief Mike Newcombe started his career in law enforcement in 1989 and became a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy. Chief Newcombe received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Administration Management in 1995. Chief Newcombe was promoted to Corporal in 1994, Sergeant in 1998, and Lieutenant in 2006. He has worked in several divisions of the Sheriff’s Department, including S.W.A.T, Crime Impact, Criminal Intelligence and Training.

Chief Newcombe managed the Valley Communications Center, and then became the Executive Officer of the Sheriff’s Information Services Division leading 265 employees. Chief Newcombe was the contract Police Chief for Grand Terrace before being transferred to Yucaipa Patrol Station as the Operations Lieutenant. From Yucaipa he had a short stint at the Fontana Station and transferred to the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department. He spent only 3 months as the Administrative Lieutenant before being promoted to the Chief of Police of Rancho Cucamonga.
