How do I report hazardous materials that have been dumped on the side of the road (e.,g., illegal dumping)? From industrial chemicals and toxic waste to household detergents and air fresheners, hazardous materials are part of our everyday lives. Hazardous materials are substances which, because of their chemical, physical, or biological nature, pose a potential risk to life, health, or property if they are handled improperly.
Per Sect. 19.20.080 of the Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Code, it is prohibited to directly or indirectly discharge hazardous materials into the street. From there it can enter through the storm drain system and pollute local waterways that are used for recreation, groundwater recharge, and are home to local wildlife.
If you observe the illegal dumping or release of known or suspected hazardous materials, call 911 immediately. Stay away from the material and spill area and also keep others away.
To report non-emergency violations, call the 24 hour pollution hotline at (877) WASTE18 or complete a form online at www.sbcountystormwater.org.
For information about proper disposal of household hazardous waste, collection facilities, and hours of operation call (800) OILYCAT or visit www.sbcfire.org/hazmat/hhwcollection.asp.
If you see containers that you believe may have hazardous material, such as used motor oil or antifreeze, please contact the Fire District at (909)477-2770. The District will send trained staff to identify the product and pick it up for disposal.
