| | In June 2010, the Rancho Cucamonga City Council directed staff to work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and other armed service groups in the community on a Veterans/Armed Forces Reflection Area to be located at Central Park. A local architectural firm, WLC Architects, Inc., and RJM Design Group, Inc., from San Juan Capistrano, joined forces and generously volunteered their time and talent in support of this worthy endeavor. When completed, the Veterans/Armed Forces Reflection Area will include a quiet, passive area to think, reflect and understand the invaluable service provided by the Armed Services and Veterans, and an opportunity for visitors to individually and privately reflect on those who have honorably served in the armed forces, learn about the country’s major wars/conflicts and honor the branches of the services. Through a series of community meetings and workshops, a preliminary conceptual plan has been prepared reflecting Design Purposes, Goals and Parameters that were established by the community and approved by the Park and Recreation Commission and City Council. The conceptual design will be reviewed by the Park and Recreation Commission and the City Council over the next few months. | |
