What You Can DoAnimal Care & ServicesBuilding a community in which every adoptable pet finds a home. What You Can Do - Start in your own backyard. If you feed outdoor cats, trap them, and have them spayed or neutered. Any resident or business residing in the City of Rancho Cucamonga can participate in the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care and Adoption Center TNR Program. - Offer your help to colony caretakers. Ongoing needs including feeding, trapping, transportation to and from the Animal Center, temporary housing for cats after surgery, and fostering and socializing kittens for the purpose of finding them good homes.
- Help raise funds for local or national TNR groups.
- Explain the value of the Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program to others. When someone asks about the benefits and purpose of a program like this, explain that a TNR program is the most humane and effective way to control feral cat colonies, minimizing the most common concerns people raise about feral cats. Further, it is important to explain that problems can arise when cats are taken out of the area or brought to shelters. When a cat that has not been spayed/neutered or vaccinated is moved to another location, more cats will move into the now-empty area and start the cycle all over again! Unfortunately, most animal shelters do not have TNR programs, so feral cats are usually humanely euthanized because they are not safe to put up for adoption.
