
To efficiently and economically support a stable and secure infrastructure, the Information Services Division is organized around four specialized functional sections. They are:
Systems Support – The Systems Support Section designs, installs, and manages centralized computer servers, data storage, backup services, and related systems that host application services for our internal and external customers.
The following are key systems managed by staff in this section:
- Over 250 centralized computer servers running Windows Server and AIX operating systems.
- Over 700 personal desktop and notebook computers used by City staff, volunteers and the public
- Over 125 Hewitt Packard network and personal printers
- Two Microsoft Exchange servers for email, calendaring, contacts, etc…
- Centralized backup services using IBM LTO-3 tape backup systems and BackupExec and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager software
- Multi-terabyte storage area networks providing high capacity, fault-tolerant data storage for our central servers and staff
- VmWare server virtualization, in conjunction with Dell Equallogic Storage Array Networks and IBM Bladecenters, are used for our server consolidation services and offer efficient, fault-tolerant services along with rapid deployment.
- Key security and management services include the following:
- Monitoring and alerting services used to proactively identify any service failures or abnormal conditions
- Enterprise level anti-malware services
- Centralized patch-management services to update software on desktop, notebook, and central computer servers
- Hard drive encryption on notebook computers
Enterprise Applications – The Enterprise Applications Section supports our centralized applications and database services used by staff, as well as our web sites and online payment for a variety of City services. This also provides project management support for new initiatives.
The following are key services managed by staff in this section:
- Over a dozen database systems
- Over several dozen Microsoft SQL database systems
- City web sites using Internet Information Server
- Enterprise applications, including the following:
- Human Resources
- Procurement
- Finance
- Time and Attendance
- Box Office Ticket Services
- Animal Care and Services
- Municipal Utility Services
- Activities Registration
- Business Licensing
- Indexed, online streaming of City Council meetings
- Fire District staff management services
- Land management services
- Staff in this section also provide project management support for new information initiatives.
Network Services – The Network Services Section supports all wired and wireless networks, including public Wi-Fi services for the community. The City-wide fiber-optic backbone that connects facilities to the City network.
The following are among the key services managed by staff in this section:
- Network firewalls
- Almost two dozen routers connecting remote facilities to the central computer resources at City Hall
- Dozens of network switches interconnecting central computer servers, desktop computers, printers and other devices
- Intrusion Prevention Services
- DNS services to resolve IP addresses to web addresses
- Wireless network services for staff and the public
- Over 35 miles of high-speed fiber-optic cabling connectivity city facilities
Customer Support – The Customer Support Section provides help desk services for our internal customers. This team also supports the purchase of IT related products and services, customer training, asset management, and installation and repair of desktop and notebook computers, printers, multi-function copiers, and audio-visual services.

- Installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the following:
- Over 60 multifunction copiers
- Over 700 personal desktop and notebook computers used by City staff, volunteers and the public
- Over 125 Hewitt Packard network and personal printers
- Computer account management
- Customer training
- Audio-visual services design and support
- Tier one support for all our computer related services
- Information technology asset management
- Procurement of computer related software and hardware
